- I was raised in a small town in North Carolina called Roanoke Rapids. My father was always big into investing and while not an active trader got me interested in investing and the stock market at a very young age. So I guess you could say that I have pretty much always had an interest in the markets, and because of this I decided to study Finance at East Carolina University (ECU), where I went to college. ECU is located in the town of Greenville, also in North Carolina, so besides the once a year trip to see grandparents in Michigan, Virgina, or Arizona, I spent my entire childhood and early adult life in North Carolina.
After graduating from college I decided I wanted to pursue a career that was closely related to the markets. Becoming a traditional stock broker or working as a commercial banker, were pretty much my options at the time in North Carolina. After doing a few interviews, I decided that this was not what I wanted to do, so I decided to pack my bags and move to New York City.
To make a long story short, once in New York I got an interview with an Internet Start-up called FXCM, which at the time had about 15 people at the firm. While not a very impressive office at the time, the CEO of the firm Drew Niv (who was around 28 at the time) was one of the people who interviewed me. I was so impressed with his knowledge of the markets and his vision for the future of the Foreign Exchange Market, that I decided to take the job when it was offered to me.
Over the next 7 years I worked my way up from a customer service/sales position to what we turned into a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week customer service and sales operation. Although young, since I was one of the early people at the firm, I was given the opportunity to run that division, which is how I spent my first several years at FXCM.
Towards the latter part of my time there I split my time managing a team of business development professionals who were responsible for a large part of FXCM's web strategy, and managing a separate team of analysts/traders who were responsible for building FXCM's managed funds division. This was the role that I enjoyed the most, as it allowed me to combine my love of the internet with my love of the markets. As you can probably see now, this also laid the groundwork for what you see here today, in InformedTrades.com.
In November of 2007 after seeing the firm grow from 15 employees, to the over 600 that it has today, I decided that it was time for me to pursue a new challenge. So, with the help of a friend and colleague who I met at FXCM, Informed Trades.com was officially launched in January of 2008.
While I certainly do not consider myself a trading guru, I feel that my knowledge of the markets and the trading industry, puts me in a unique position to build a strong community of knowledgeable traders, who understand that trading is hard, and not a get rich type of thing as it is so often portrayed. I also feel that once we have a core community as we are starting to develop now, my knowledge of the internet can help bring that community together, in the most efficient and powerful way possible, so that each member gets the maximum benefit from the collective knowledge of the community.
While there is also a profit component of this site, I think you will find that, unlike most sites who ruin the experience by loading up on advertising, any advertising that is done here at InformedTrades, will be in the background and to the benefit of the community. .. i started with the forex course but once i reached the topics of "fundamentals vs technicals" i knew i had to start from the very beginning.. so i started the "basics of trading" .. im on the "macd" topic as of right now.. im also using the demo account offered by ACM trading.. ive only traded the EUR/USD using 1/100 leverage every time i trade.. its funny how before i knew about this site i started the demo with a $5000 balance then in no time it went down to $3500.. then i discovered this site and started studying and then this week i decided to put into practice what i have learned so far .. and in just 4 days my balance went up to $6106 and its currently there since forex closed as of the weekend... I've been trading as if i only had $1000 ..since that will be my original investment with real money in the future when i feel ready, so far so good i would say .. however.. im pretty sure luck played a big role in this little but fundamental success this week..but also it is an indisputable fact that the knowledge shared in your website and good judgement helped me turn the tables around more than luck did....
