‎#jaroquits trading after almost 7 years of almost daily effort && RESTARTs AGAIN ;-)

Updated 07-14-2012 at 05:07 AM by jaro (&& RESTARTs AGAIN)

... for a time :-)

zero open positions? an empty account :-)

folks, ive sold my remaining micro trading positions orange juice + natural gas 2day (thursday) and withdrawn all money out of my trading account ... hell, what does it mean? well, my trading career is after almost 7 years over ... at least for a time :-)

what abt my YTD and/or overall balance? well, ive started the year with 7,267 €uros and ended up with 13,265 on july 21th (ie withdrawn 9,000 and closed with 4,265 €). its a nice performance of 82.54% in 7 months, thats fine, of course ;-). nevertheless, im disappointed cos ive lost 4,000 €uros (or 55% in terms of performance) in only 4 days in june basically on own overestimation + stupidity (more details below ~ 'lake garda'). well, im too lazy to look at my old statistics and even not sure if i would find all of them today, so i just can tell ya that my best trading year was 2010 with a profit of 347% and that ive made 31% in 2009 ... anyway, it was a succesful period in terms of $$ + experience in my life, so why to quit? many reasons out there:
  • the commodity exchanges changed their rules according margin requirements (eg in case of silver is the margin 8 times higher as it used to be in january (it is an increase by 700% my dear!), in case of wheat 3.33 times higher etc => i would need much much much more money deposited at my brokers account in order to hold the same line of stuff as usually
  • new rules require a new strategy (stop loss limits etc) which doesnt fit my personality i think
  • ive lost half my trading account in 4 days while at lake garda in italy ... leaving my account without stop limits + facing a real drawndown in commodities in that time + didnt look-up the results in the evenings => a sad combination of bad strategy & bad luck ... btw, i hope u did learn a lot by reading this lines without losing any money, didnt u?
  • my intuition told me the mining stocks market was/is close to its bottom => i liked to invest more $$ in mining stocks, so ive been looking for some fresh money 2 invest. cos there was no money in my wifes/childrens piggy banks at all (did they hide it somewhere else?) i decided to use my trading funds for that reason :-)
  • i have no time/energy to think abt new trades and/or strategy cos of my current 10 hours a day office job
  • my broker plans to close its old trading platform and to force all traders to switch to the new one ... i would rather switch to different broker cos of the sometimes really strange order executions instead, but there is the well known 'no time' issue again ...
  • im prolly even a little bit tired after sooo many years of almost daily connection to worlds financial markets
  • trading 'costs' me too much time + attention which is missing for other things in life
  • there is still my mining stocks account :-)
  • etc etc etc
whats next? well, i have moved the remaining 4,265 €uros of my trading money to my investing account and heavily invested in mining stocks. cos the investing account is also a margin account and my 'old' mining stocks advanced like crazy the last 2 or 3 weeks, i could buy mining stocks for approx 11,000 €uros in july and going to add few more soon ... hell, hell, hell!! good luck, my dear stock market plays, good luck

btw, is there any strategy in my stock market investing? till now only my old buy-and-hold idea but im going to think abt a more sophisticated one on the weekend, promised!

~~~
my stock market strategy, is that YOU? well, i still believe we are in a hyper-inflationary phase, so it makes not much sense 2 sell commodity stocks, i think ... and there is also that stupid 28.x% tax on profits in germany.... buuuut also commodity stocks can go down a lot and they also did from april to june (approx 30% i woudda say), so what to do if my broker asks for more money to cover my current line of stocks? well, then and only then im going to sell stocks of companies which were performing badly or have imo limited potential for future (price) growth or both! lets write down few of them immediately and increase that list as time goes on in order to have one place of easy access when it is time to lower my stock market exposure quickly:
  • kinross gold
  • detour gold
  • gold fields
  • brent oil call warrant (strike price 90 usd, expires in november 2011 anyway)
  • silver standard resources
  • yamana gold
  • sultan corp.
  • osisko mining
  • barrick gold
  • jaguar mining
  • clifton star resources
  • legend intnl holdings
  • microsoft ... lets hope they're going to pay out their surplus cash (above $20b i think) to shareholders 'owners' first
  • MAN
  • archer daniels midland
  • agrium inc
  • penn west petroleum
  • ...
    the margin hikes are spoiling the fun for active trading. but, i still think there are some great opportunities, and some more parabolic moves to come in a number of markets, so i'm very excited about trading opportunities. with that said, i recently did the same thing you did -- took some money out of my trading account to purchase mining stocks. i think we will reach a mania in gold bullion and mining stocks in the coming years.
    best of luck in your post-trading adventures, jaro!
    Well those big guys don't want the small guys playing around so they make it harder and harder to speculate in "regulated" markets. Good luck Jaro, you'll do mighty well
    yep, the evil regulators play their ugly games .... and their buddies who knew abt the regulation before it appears in the market place can catch few easy bucks (eg by going short silver when the margin requirements are going to increase dramatically) ... on the other hand, after a while the traders adjust to the new conditions and there is the same chance for all market 'fighters' again ... and of course the big ones need the small ones in order to win their money as well
    imho is the higher margin not a completely wrong issue/idea as it reduces the speculation driven 'demand' in wheat / corn / rice / oil / silver / gold / stock market / currencies / bonds /etc and thus keeps the prices lower (the most traders are long, arent they?) or at least closer to their fair values ... maybe with one exception: if all traders/investors who buy paper gold/silver 2day would buy the physical metal instead the price would be even higher
    go commodities go
    Maybe a well deserved break is in order, a time to reflect on what you've done well and not so well also. The mini sized silver future's margin is too high for me. What about the related ETF's?
    hi tom
    silver ETFs? hmmm, is the margin lower than for mini-futures?
    for trading purposes there is imo not a big difference what 'vehicle' you choose as long you understand it properly and it fits to your strategy ... for security/investment purpose (people often think abt security/insurance when they buy gold/silver) i would only buy physical stuff, no ETFs :-)
    good luck, either way
    Jaro, this makes me very sad my friend! Some time trading get overwhelming for me as well. It has been very hard on my family, I have spent so much time studding over the last 2 1/2 years that my family has suffered terriblly! Some times I ask if it worth it, but then again I put my head down and keep studdying! I feel im on the verg of breaking though and being able to start cutting back on the time I spend in front of this computer! Time will tell my wife is a saint and if not for her love I would have given up long ago! I give this one more year to be consistantly consistant or my family may kick me out of our house! IMO YOU HAVE DONE OUTSTANDING You had better not be a stranger, I would miss your mother earth mission statements! GO GREEN!!!!!!! NO NUKES!!!!!!! SAVE THE RAIN FOREST!!!!!!! You know that kind of stuff. Your friend Bryan!
    Oh by the way if you ever want to bring your family and come and go gold mining in Colorado, come on down im looking at 3 different 20 acer placer minning claims on the Arkansas river.
    Arkansas River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Two of the claims are near leadville where the mouth of the river is. Leadville was a big minning town in the 1850's
    Leadville, Colorado - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    The other is on the Arkansas river as well but in chaffee county near Salida.
    City of Salida, Colorado
    All three of these claims are with in 3 hours from where I live. Jaro Ill get a highbanker sluice set up for you!
    Jaro here are some pictues of the real claims! These are the two in Leadville. Scroll down to see the other picture! These claims are selling for about $7500.00 per claim, the one in Salida is $12,500.00. I would be able to place a travel trailer on the property and leave it there to spend weekends or have extended stays! The land is BLM or goverenment land but I would own the minerail rights for as long as I kept my claim current!
    hello bryan (s2l) + friends
    well, im not out of the planet (as amy winehouse is ... RIP), i just switch to investing completely in order to focus my time/attention on my major frontline ... and yes, i dont want to stay the strange foreign fellow who sits on the PC the whole day and doesnt take part in the family life around him (trading is tooooo time/energy consuming, all of you know that for sure) ... there is a saying in germany ~~ the first impression decides, the last impression lasts ~~ so i will try to build up a different picture of myself inside the family circle as long as my daughters (21 + 13 years old) still live at home
    a visit to colorado / arkansas river / etc? why not, i would enjoy it with or without gold/silver claims, anyway. well, at the moment it is more an idea than a plan, but i would like to see more of our planet till it is still somehow environmentaly intact .. maybe not the way jim rogers did twice (by motorcycle and by car spending more than a year travelling each time), more likely it would be a decision to take 3 months off and to visit north america (esp. the silver valley / idaho, the homestake region (black hills?), california, vancouver, alaska, NY (wall street + freedom statue), ... btw, i have been to florida many years ago and i liked the folks there a lot (miami, everglades, key west, walt disney, cap canaveral, ...) and in march also few days to toronto / niagara / pittsburgh) ... than work for a year back in munich again and next year will try 2 go for 2 or 3 months to australia / new zealand or asia ... till i will visit 'everything' .., of course, it is basically a question of money, i know ... so there is no way to quit my financial markets involvement any time soon, u see?
    and yes, i will keep posting (each time i have s.th. 2 say) on environment, mining stocks, (weakening) paper currencies, (strengthening) gold / silver / commodities, ... GO GREEN / NO NUKES / SAVE THE RAIN FOREST ... and i will not forget the WHALES next time
    ps: im going 2 watch/read the mining claims links s2l posted above now ... it is for sure the way how many mining companies started their 'careers' ~ theyve bought few claims next to existing/former mines, started campaigns to raise money (eg 'my' investor lunch events in munich, attended mining shows in toronto / vancouver / NY / munich / zurich / frankfurt / etc) ... and (very) few of the claims will become a mine after some time in the future (and their owners + early investors multi-millionaires )
    thx, friends, thx
    #2 ~ mining claims in colorado ~ stock market strategy
    hi bryan,
    the gold panning video is amazing (is that hardworking guy you?), ive 'saved' it in my youtube favorites and thus automatically shared with all my twitter / facebook fellows and yes, now i know what the mining CEOs mind if they speak abt difference between rock and ore ... but i couldnt follow/open the comcast.net links ... even by searching 'comcast.net id=546520' i just found a mansion for $2.6m in illinois, which is prolly not the right mining district i believe ...
    and yes, i came up with an early strategy for my investment account:
    well, i still believe we are in a hyper-inflationary phase, so it makes not much sense 2 sell commodity stocks, i think ... and there is also that stupid 28.x% tax on profits in germany.... buuuut also commodity stocks can go down a lot and they also did from april to june (approx 30% i woudda say), so what to do if my broker asks for more money to cover my current line of stocks? well, then and only then im going to sell stocks of companies which were performing badly or have imo limited potential for future (price) growth or both! lets write down few of them immediately and increase that list as time goes on in order to have one place of easy access when it is time to lower my stock market exposure quickly:
    No that is not me in the video, but that is what I want to do! I have built a high banker sluice box and am finishing it up now. All I have left now is the stand it sits on and a few spot welds on the screen that seperates the fines from the rock. I will post pictures as soon as im done! I am looking forward to getting out on weekends and doing this! I took my family to Vail the other day for a weekend and we went though Fairplay, Southpark area and there was a guy about 300 yards off the highway on the other side of the stream that had a nice placer gold mining opperation set up, he had a good sized opperation going! I looked some thing this:‪Trommel testing 1‬‏ - YouTube
    He had a gold trommel wash plant setup, this is for guys that mean business and are mining to make money! It looked just like the one in the video and was about the same size!
    This is the size opperation that I would like to have! As long as gold stays above a 1000.00 you could make some very good money!
    what commodities? silver, gold, gas, wheat, rice, corn, oil, coffee, orange juice, cocoa, ...
    my system or strategy? well, a difficult question, cos i dont really have a system and especially not a technical one .... i watch the markets daily and hope i will (again) develop an intuition to decide when is the right time to enter or leave a particular market and yes, on top there are some seasonal patterns i have written abt some time ago
    btw, i hope i will get some gold & silver tonight
