i couldn't resist the temptation and bought (still cheap enough
) two more commodity stocks before these crazy price jumps today:
lol), will they?
it sounds like a sound investment 2 me. i think benjamin graham & warren buffett would be very proud of me
.
addendum 10-31-2009:
folks, i have to confess my sin i did yesterday, but you not gonna tell my wife about it, ok? well, i've increased my stakes in 2 companies even if i 'moved' already more than enough money from our regular bank account into the stock portfolio account recently
:
addendum 12-31-2009: what abt recapitulation at the end of the year?
hmmmm, in €uros is cbh 18% down, cardero 36% up. well, it is still a winning combination on balance, but there were much better investments in the 2nd half of 2009 possible! unfortunately, that performance was below the average gain i had on other mining stocks ... anyway, i'm not going 2 sell this stocks soon and 2 be honest, i have really enjoyed the steady increase in cardero's market capitalization (see comments below) as mr. market begun 2 understand that cardero should be at least worth the amount of its cash reserves (~USD 100 million) and adjusts the price towards that mark steadily. the current market value is CAD 84.41 million (the recent high 2 or 3 days ago was already approx 10% higher), therefore there will be much to enjoy in 2010 as well, i think
btw, amerigo resources did nothing since the end of october and is approx -1% down.

- cardero resources - iron ore, copper, precious metals in peru, usa, argentina

:- cardero resources AGAIN

- amerigo resources (copper + molybdenum in chile). btw, amerigo is also ross beaty's (pan american silver) copper play

hey jaro,
i think graham and buffet would definitely be proud
i don't look at book value of companies anymore, mainly because the regulatory and accounting standards is so messed up i think lots of these numbers are misleading. that is definitely the way it is in the USA, although i think the problem is somewhat global, in my opinion.
but as you know i like the commodities, particularly base and precious metals. so i think you'll be safe so long as cardero doesn't join dave and shoot at the casino.

I agree with simit. Although trying to find book value of a company is not impossible, it is a tedious and hard job. There is no true book value of a company. Only estimates can be made because of the complexity of the accounting structure i don't even want to mention.
Have you considered index investing?

hi folks,
thx 4 yr response and lets hope the best 4 my stock picks
@forexer: index funds?
well, i still own 2 ETFs (renewable energy & world water), but i do like the stockpicking soooo much that i would choose index funds just for countries/industries where a direct investment would be nearly impossible (sri lanka, chile, angola, taiwan, kongo ...).
btw, i've even fired my money manager last year (it was the german partner of the u.s. billionaire ken fisher, gruener-fisher-investments), so now i take all my financial decisions by myself ...
thx a lot

cardero on shopping tour?
folks, even if cardero's stock price is still disappointing + below my average purchase price and it didn't really take part in recent commodity rally, it also didn't fall down and look: it rose slightly today despite the soooooo crashy commodity markets in which few commodities + many of my explorer / junior producer stocks fell by 5-12% ... (prolly because the USD rose significantly against the €uro after weeks of free fall ...)
and yes, they still have some idle money @ cardero, just read the headline of their latest news release:
"Cardero Completes $1,000,000 investment in Wealth Minerals Ltd."Posted 10-26-2009 at 08:27 PM by jaro g.

next cardero's purchase :-)
folks, they really seem to have some money at cardero, just lok at today's company's news
:
Cardero Resource Corp.
(“Cardero” or the “Company”) – (TSX: CDU, NYSE-A: CDY, Frankfurt: CR5) is pleased to announce that it has completed a $1,000,000 investment in Trevali Resources Corp. (“Trevali”) of Vancouver B.C. ...
btw, the price of cardero's stock didn't lost a cent in today's market sell-off, which is for sure a sign of strength and in the last weak week there was just a really small decline compared to its peer group. well, the price also didn't go up in recent commodity rally since august, but i feel that mr. market will recognize cardero's value soon .... btw, its market capitalization of 72.59 million CAD$ is still below the recent chinese payment of $100m for their peruvian iron ore property ...
folks, i have to confess my sin i did yesterday, but you not gonna tell my wife about it, ok? well, i've increased my stakes in cardero + amerigo resources (copper + molybdenum in chile) even if my regular bank account is already plundered soo much by my former stock shopping orgies

just wanna borrow CAD 87.341 million, who's gonna help me?
folks,
stock markets are sooo crazy, you know? there are days i don't believe my eyes! do u know what do i do then?
well, i watch the unexpected stock price quote, look 4 possible company news, read the company message twice, look at the quote again, read the message again, sometime even try to put some funny numbers into my calculator (and always throw the calculator away as it neither gives me a result nor an answer as i'm prolly too stupid to use it anyway
), then take a walk, drink next cup of coffee, watch the new quote after returning back ... btw, you can call yourself 'happy' because you don't have 2 hear how ugly do i swear abt the sooo stupid homo sapiens financialis on days like that
i know, dear readers of my blog, you still remeber these strange cardero resources guys with all their strange iron ore, gold, copper projects in peru/usa/argentina, don't you?
well, the current quote was abt +25% today. me, happy, thought: hell, they've found the next eldorado or got a bulk of money from FED for ZERO interest rate or BOTH! forget it, nothing like that happened! what was the market mover 2day then? yep, the chinese partners have paid the remaining USD 88 million (USD is correct!) on their major peruvian iron ore property. hmmm, of course they did, why shouldn't they? well, the stock closed trading @ its day low
, which was +14.62%, anyway.
we've spoken abt all these book value / cash reserves / etc. things above. hmmmm, what's your guess concerning the current market capitalization of cardero? ... you are right, it is only CAD 87.341 million. again, CAD is correct! also i don't see the current cad/usd ratio i can tell you the buck is even stronger than the loonie at the moment! (i have both currencies as usd/eur + cad/eur pairs in my watch list, because i do sometimes compare (~not compute! still the same calculator issue
) the prices of my u.s. + canadian stocks in germany and america, you know?)
UNBELIEVABLE! the've just got USD 88 million + still have plenty of cash from the 1st rate payment of USD 12m + mineral deposits in peru/usa/argentina + investments in other companies like the 2 which i've posted earlier + petty cash + whatever else they own/posses !!! do you call markets RATIONAL?
well, let's borrow the antic CAD 87.341 million + buy the whole company + enjoy the UNBELIEVABLE!-assets!!!
hell, hell, hell! this investing stuff is sooooooo easy

. thx, mr. market, thx!
ps: does someone have the telephone number of the money-printing-wonder bernanke? of course, just in case there will be not enough money to borrow inside the IT community
