As we discussed in our lesson on the second three tenets of Dow Theory, one of the basic tenets of technical analysis is that trends are confirmed by volume.

As you can see from the chart below when the Dow was falling volume was increasing and as it rose over the last several trading sessions volume decreased which at least according to this one piece of analysis is not a good sign.
