UK Market Closing Comments by IG Index
As we move into the final hour of trading, the FTSE 100 is recovering after
negative data from the US offset this morning's strong gains.
The commodity-heavy FTSE broke through the 5500 barrier in late morning
trading, climbing 1.15% to 5511.3 as heavyweight miners were bolstered by
higher commodity prices. Antofagasta rose 6.6% while BHP Billiton rallied
6.02%. Anglo American, Rio Tinto and Xstrata all made strong gains, and
European indices were higher ahead of the open on Wall Street.
