Hi Drpete,
If you are looking for a service that will email or text you when the forex market hits a certain level then the Metatrader platform does this and is available for free from a bunch of firms. Here are two where you can register for the platform for free: Forex Trading | Currency Trading | Metatrader 4 | Forex Trading Software | Forex Broker | FXDD www.interbankfx.com And here is a video on setting up the platform to give you alerts when the market hits certain levels: How to Setup Priceline Alerts in Metatrader [Video] Another service that was designed for this as a standalone service is alert!fx™ - foreign exchange (forex) alerts.. Hope that helps. Best Regards, Dave |

Thanks for the info Dave,
Simon, I am after forex rate alerts and maybe some tech indicators. I have read about MT4 but already use a platform supplied by my broker. Also does the platform have to be running to provide alerts? i.e. if I am offline will it still send me alerts? Alertfx seem useful but do not send texts only emails - I have a phone which can not be configured for email unfortunately :-( I am currently trialling mobile4x.com so will see how that goes. |

My pleasure. Sometimes even if you can't get emails on a cell phone you can still have an email sent to you as a text message. For example I have a cingular phone and if I send an email to my number@cingularme.com then it will come to me as a text. So the format would be 555.555.5555@cingularme.com. Each cellphone provider has a different format for doing this and you should be able to find it in the help section of their websites.
I don't personally use the metatrader platform so I am not sure if it will still send alerts when turned off but that should be a question that any of the platform providers can easily answer. If you happen to find out or if anyone else knows this if you would not mind posting here I would appreciate it. I would also be interesting to know how you find the other service. Best Regards, Dave |

If you want simple alerts based on techincal indicators, the MetaTrader platform is probably your best option. It's free and you have tons of brokers to choose from. You can download a demo account from any broker, then use the demo account to supply your alerts regardless of where you place the live trades. As David mentioned, most cell phone companies will deliver text messages sent to specific email addresses. This link gives you the information for all providers:Send a Text Message One of my customers likes to trade the euro session but does not want to get out of bed unless the price crosses the 200 EMA. He only looks at the market if he gets the text message alert sent from MetaTrader. Otherwise, he gets a good night's sleep. Regardless of which charting package you select, almost all of them support this email-to-text message feature. |
