Default Top Dog Trading Review: Review of Special Reports by Dr. Barry Burns

I received a Zip file containing three separate reports: Trading Tricks, How to Take Out Other People's Stops for Fun and Profit, and How to Avoid Choppy Markets And Get In on Major Trends.

All three of the reports were very well written, with the ideas in the reports being well organized, explained and illustrated with easy to understand charts. The first two reports did not teach me very much and I think they are best suited to fairly new traders.
Most of the information in the first two reports contained ideas I have seen before for free on the internet. The main advantage of purchasing the report would be to have the information in an organized and well presented manner and to save the time of searching for these ideas yourself.

The second report on placing stops has many good ideas and tricks in it and I strongly recommend it to any trader who has significant problems with placing his stops.

The third report is a little more advanced, to the point where I think it is not suited for beginners. It focuses on techniques to identify when the market is choppy, i.e. trade filters. The ideas and techniques in this report were excellent and most of them were new to me. I immediately saw the logic behind them and will be incorporating them into my own trading. In my opinion, the majority of the ideas in this report are really only relevant to equity futures traders.

Report 1: Trading Tricks

This section of the product goes over a few tricks. Specifically Dr. Burns discusses "Buying into selling" and "Selling into Buying", scaling out of positions to cut losses, the importance of quality execution platforms and the use of Fibonacci extensions.
I found the topics well introduced and the wording and structure of the report made it very easy to understand. The report was full of charts illustrating the different ideas presented.
Personally, I found nothing new in this report, and nothing I have not seen for free on the internet. Scaling out and Fibonacci extensions are very basic concepts and they were not covered in such depth as too shed new light on them.
The section on the importance of a good execution platform raised a few interesting points, specifically if your order resides on your computer/ your brokers computer or at the exchange when you send it. I was not aware that orders could reside anywhere but on the exchange and I always assumed that my orders were sent directly there so this point was an eye opener, and Dr. Burns illustrates the issue very clearly and gives recommendations for handling it and selecting a proper execution platform.

All in all, I found this section of the report to be very oriented towards beginner traders. It provides a general overview of some concepts that are very basic. Most of the information in this report is freely available on the internet and the key advantage in buying the report is that the information is organized and well presented.

Report 2: How to Take Out Other People's Stops for Fun and Profit

This section is best summarized with a question Dr. Burns presents

"WHERE DO YOUR STOPS BELONG?"
Where do your stops belong? My answer to that can be summarized in this little rhyme:
“They belong where you’re wrong.”
"
The majority of this report dwells on that question and answer. This report is much more "conceptual" then the previous one, but the concepts presented are invaluable to anyone struggling with there stop's. I did not feel like this report presented me personally with a significant amount of new information, but had I read it earlier in my trading career and assimilated it I would have saved quite a bit of money. Just to be clear, this report does not teach you how to stop run, it teaches you how to look at charts in a way that will help you understand where other traders placed there stops and which kind of trader placed a particular stop order.

All in all, this report is not very relevant to advanced traders but is highly recommended for beginner traders or anyone who is struggling with placing their stops.

Report 3: How to Avoid Choppy Markets And Get In on Major Trends

"This Special Report from Top Dog Trading is designed to help you avoid choppy markets"

This is my favorite report out of the three for a number of reasons. Firstly, I learnt quite a bit from this. The techniques covered here are not especially common and Dr. Burns covers them very well. There are five different techniques presented to identify consolidations in the market and all of them are very well explained. As opposed to the other two reports this one is much more applicable and far less conceptual. Dr. Burns covers different statistics provided by the exchanges as well as some creative work with charts that helps to identify choppy markets.

This report will probably be a little difficult for the beginning trader but will be a good addition to an intermediate/ advanced trader's arsenal. It is important to note that these techniques are relevant only for those traders that focus on indices futures and stocks, they are not very relevant to forex and most of them are also not relevant for commodity futures.

All in all this report is excellent for any trader who focuses on equity indices (Dow, S&P, NASDAQ or Russel), with the ideas being well presented, very applicable and just plain good.

Hello traders,

I feel the need to chime in here. I personally started my trading education with Barry Burn's courses. I've purchased and studied all that he's released, lessons and special reports. My main interest in Barry's courses were bang for the buck. After shopping on line for several months for trading education courses I was always drawn back to his. I would recommend Barry's courses to all aspiring new traders looking to sort out a solid methodology for intra day trading the Russell, NASDAQ, S&P, and Dow futures. This is Barry's bread and butter and from what I've studied he's very successful at it. I felt his courses were reasonably priced and he provided solid rules and a methodology to successfully, intra day trade, the above mentioned futures. Thanks Barry I appreciate it.
