Default Wicks

Hi Dave:

Many thanks for putting across this tremendous resource in a very organised manner.

I wanted to ask what is the significance of a wick? In some candles I see it on the both sides of the body of the candle, in some I see it only in the bottom and in some I see it only at the top.

Thanks once again,
M

Hi Maajoba,

Glad to hear from you and welcome to the community.

The top and bottom of the wick represents the high and low for the time period that you are trading and then body of the candle represents the open and the close.

So if the open is near the low for the day for example, then there will not be much of a wick if any because the two levels are the same.

Best Regards,
Dave

Default Volume

Hi David,

I'm sure you've answered this question somewhere in the readers' reply but I found it diffecult to check 12 pages
in brief if my platform doesn't show the volume of the current trading should I assume the long of a candlestick is the real volume, when the candlestick is long mean the volume is high, and vice versa.

Thanks,
Faisal

Hi Faisal,

Glad to here from you.

Oftentimes when there is a long candle it is accompanied by large volume but this is not always the case. If you are trading in the forex market there is a post that goes into more detail as to why there is no volume and some ways around it at the link below:

is volume important in forex

If there are any other questions or comments on this one please feel free to post as always.

Best Regards,
Dave
