Hi Flsupraguy,

Thats one of the better comments I think I have gotten on the site so thank you for that and welcome to the community.

I don't follow the market on a minute by minute basis but I do know that there were not any scheduled news releases on the economy out during those times. As you may already know the Dow is made up of 30 individual stocks so a big move from one of the component stocks can contribute to moves like you have discribed. I think most would also agree that 40 point moves are within the range that can be considered market noise and many times there is not a specific event that can be pointed to which caused the move.

This being said I may have simply missed something and the news outlets are pretty good at always trying to explain why the market is moving so here are a couple of headlines from around the times you have listed:
