The NASDAQ Composite is a stock market index that is comprised of all of the stocks which are listed and trade on the NASDAQ stock exchange. As younger growth oriented companies tend to list their stocks on the NASDAQ, this Index is closely followed as a barometer of the tech sector and for growth companies in general in the United States. When people say the NASDAQ was up or down x amount of points today they are referring to the NASDAQ Composite.
