Default FXCM on WallStreetWarriors

Hey Dave,
I was watching the MOJO tv show "Wall Street Warriors" and one of the people on it was starting a job at FXCM. If you missed the show, they have a web site: Wall Street Warriors | MOJO

I was wondering if you recognized anyone there or would comment on it.

Thanks,

Rocketman7

Hey Rocketman7,

I went through the website briefly and did not recognize anyone there. Is the specific part where the person talks about FXCM on the website?

I have not seen the show before but from the website it looks like they are following some hard selling brokers around and videotaping them reality show style.

As far as my comments on this during my time at FXCM we hired pretty much only recent graduates from good schools to man the phones and there was never a cold call made. Those people would service incoming phone and chat traffic and then they would call demo accounts and ask them if they wanted to be walked through the platform.

The one exception to the above was the institutional division of the firm where there was a lots more gloves off mentality where cold calling and things such as this were the name of the game. The difference here however is you are calling hedge funds and financial institutions not individual traders.

So in short, while I was there, and I doubt anything has changed in the 4 months since I have left, there was no cold calling to individuals going on, and there was a conscious effort not to hire that type of person.

This being said in general in finance and trading you should assume that you are swimming with the sharks at all times as like this show seems to be pointing out in general its a dog eat dog industry.

Any other questions or comments please feel free to post them below.

Best Regards,
Dave

Dave,
Yea, I was really vague in my description. See what happens when you ass|u|me? What I should have said was that I watched episode 9 (which should be available for viewing sometime soon - they are currently showing episode 8 in the "Full Episodes" section) and the "Rookie Laetitia" started to work at FXCM and there was video from inside the offices and and two managers were training her there. Since you've only been gone about four months, you may have even been there when the video was taken. I was wondering if you knew them - no big deal, I just noticed a relationship. Sorry for the run around. There is some learning that can be had from this show - the floor trader Larry said that if anyone ever cold calls you hang up immediately.

Thanks,
Rocketman7

Hey Dave,
Noticed that MojoHD.com is showing episode 9 of "Wall Street Warriors". The two people I previously mentioned but couldn't remember their names were: Kathy Lien and Boris Schlossberg (also found their names on the FXCM web site).

Later,

Hello David,

You worked at FXCM? Could you tell me your impression of the company? I actually just created an account with FXCM and Gecko Software. I've had platforms with Gecko before, but I'm mostly going with FXCM just on faith. Did you leave FXCM on good terms?

Hi Jack6,

Yes I worked for FXCM for 6 years, left the company on good terms and have a favorable impression of the company. This being said there are traders who prefer other brokers so I encourage you to ask around and make your own decision based on that due diligence.

Best Regards,
Dave
