Default Broker who offers MT4, Future and Forex

Do you know of any broker with whom we can trade the forex market and futures all within MT4? I only know one : ActivTrades - Trading on Futures, Forex, CFDs with Metatrader but unfortunately they don't accept Canadian citizens.

Hi Trendisyourfriend,

Glad to hear from you.

I am pretty sure that it is only possible to trade forex and CFD's through the Metatrader platform. If you go to the futures page of the site listed above and click on platforms Metatrader is not listed there, only on the forex and CFD pages.

Hope that helps.

Best Regards,
Dave

David, i communicate regularly with some Europeen traders and they use ActivTrades as their broker and yes they can trade Futures or indexes like Dax or crude oil from within MT4. So one platform, many markets and fractional lots size 0.01 or 0.1 or 1 or whatever fraction like 0.18 . This is great.

Hi Trendisyourfriend,

Glad to hear from you.

I am pretty sure that your friends who are trading indexes and crude oil on MT4 are doing so via the CFD market and not the futures market. CFD's are derivative instruments that track the futures market and allow you to execute trades on indexes, gold, oil and pretty much anything else you can think of. While these instruments due track the price of the futures market they are not actual futures contracts. Unfortunately it is not legal to trade CFD's in the US or Canada which is most likely why this firm told you that they will not open an account for Canadian citizens.

When trading in the futures market you trade standardized contracts so even if there was a platform that would allow trading in fractions like you can on MT4 when trading forex and CFD's, this would not be possible when trading futures. When trading CFD's and Forex the broker sets the contract size however they want, which is why you can trade factions of contracts in the CFD and forex markets but not in the futures market.

Best Regards,
Dave

Why is this ? Do you think it's assimilated to Casino's random games ?

Hi Trendisyourfriend,

Glad to hear from you.

It is not legal to trade CFD's in the US and Canada because trading in commodities and financial futures like indexes is required to be transacted on an exchange, so it can be overseen and regulated by the regulatory bodies of the two countries.

It is much harder to regulate a financial instrument when it is traded off exchange like CFD's are.

Best Regards,
Dave
